Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO) and Regional Point of Service (POS)
CareFirst’s HMO plans use our BlueChoice network. Except for emergency services, if you go outside of the BlueChoice network, your medical services will not be covered.
With our flexible regional POS plans, your cost depends on which network you choose to receive services. POS plans allow members to see providers in the HMO network, PPO network and outside of our network (where you will likely pay charges that exceed CareFirst’s allowed benefit). If you’re enrolled in a CareFirst Virtual Connect plan, you also have the convenience of 24/7 primary care, urgent care or mental health services virtually through your computer or your CloseKnit mobile app.
All our regional plans include Blue Rewards, in-network benefits for urgent and emergency care and Care Management programs. As a CareFirst member, don’t forget that you also receive free benefits like premier health and wellness deals from leading national and local retailers through our Blue365 Wellness Discount Program, including gym memberships.
