Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) and National Point of Service (POS)
CareFirst’s national PPO plans offer the most choice. You can receive care from our large, local PPO network as well as the national
BlueCard PPO network.
When you use BlueCard you can get in-network benefits and access to more than 95% of all physicians in the country.
With our flexible national POS plans, your cost depends on which network you choose to receive services. POS plans allow members to see providers in the HMO network, PPO network and outside of our network (where you will likely pay charges that exceed CareFirst’s allowed benefit). If you’re enrolled in a CareFirst Virtual Connect plan, you also have the convenience of 24/7 primary care, urgent care or mental health services virtually through your computer or your CloseKnit mobile app.
All our national plans include Blue Rewards, in-network benefits for out-of-area access, BlueCross BlueShield Global Core and Care Management programs.
