What's new, what's improved

Here’s what CareFirst is introducing and/or updating in the new plan year.

Care Support Programs

As a CareFirst member, you don’t have to manage your health alone—we’re here to help. Our wide range of care programs—including our new Heart Health program—are designed to help navigate you through different health challenges. These programs work alongside the care you already receive from your doctors (please note that eligibility for the programs may vary).

We know your health needs can change over time. That’s why we regularly review and update our programs to make sure they continue to meet your needs. Get the most from your CareFirst benefits and take advantage of our condition-specific support, including:

  • Chronic Kidney Disease: Care management to help slow disease progress and support appropriate transition to dialysis.
  • Diabetes Virtual Care: Helping you manage your A1C of 8% or greater with coaching support, personalized care plans, care supplies and smart tracking tools.
  • Joint and Muscle Health: Three distinct programs to help you with pelvic care; whole-body movement; and acute, chronic back, joint and muscle pain.
  • Heart Health: Helping members manage their condition through personalized support, care plans and coordination with their current doctors and specialists.
  • Palliative Care: Support to assist you in navigating advanced or end-stage disease through personal care plans, help managing symptoms, reducing pain and stress, and enhancing your quality of life.

Healthy Pregnancy and Newborn Digital Resource

CareFirst is here to support you through every stage of your pregnancy journey—from planning and your first pregnancy test to navigating all stages of your pregnancy experience. Our new Healthy Pregnancy and Newborn resource offers a trimester-by-trimester timeline, task checklists, questions to ask your provider and guidance to help you understand your benefits and coverage early. You’ll also find easy access to nurses, providers and support programs to help you feel confident and informed before, during and after pregnancy.

As a reminder, all health insurance carriers are required to offer Affordable Care Act (ACA)- compliant health plans that follow specific benefit guidelines. To ensure our plans meet these ACA provisions and the needs of our members, CareFirst reviews each plan annually. As a result of this evaluation, certain changes may be made to your coverage each year. These changes could involve plan benefits or adjustments to deductibles, out-of-pocket maximums or other limits. Not all changes will necessarily apply to your plan.
